Old Spanish Trail Arena of Moab for Rent for Events

Old Spanish Trail Arena is a state of the art equestrian arena for rodeo, roping, barrel racing and equestrian clinics. It is also a multi-use facility.

The arena will be transformed in February for the production of a Fashion Show. The Fashion is created out of reused and recycled items in affiliation with the Wabi Sabi Second Hand shops of Moab. The Fashion Show is an auction. It raises funds for non-profit partners. The non-profit partners receive a dividend from the second hand store sales quarterly and the Fashion Show is an annual fund raiser event.

In March,the arena hosts two dog agility events. The North American Dog Agility Council (NADAC)and Dogs on Course in North America (DOCNA). NADAC was formed in 1993 to provide North American dogs and their handlers with a fast, safe and enjoyable form of the sport of dog agility. DOCNA was formed in 2005. It is the newest dog agility organization.

In April, the arena floor becomes an expo of all things 4x4 in celebration of the Easter Jeep Safari. In May, the side-by-side UTV Rally moves in for an expo too.

By June the Spanish Trail Arena will be the venue for the Canyonlands rodeo and later in the month headquarters for the Red Rock Camp 2011. This is a conference combining many outdoor adventures that Moab has to offer.

February 20 -24 2011

Joseph Rossbach will teach a variety of techniques—both in the field and in the classroom—that will allow you to advance both your technical skills and artistic vision. A number of professional field techniques are taught to help create dramatic and powerful nature images. Participants will work with dramatic light, including sunrise and sunset; get instruction on the fundamentals of powerful compositions; use long exposure techniques for incorporating time and motion into photographs; shoot night photography and abstract techniques.

April 1-6 2011

Panoramic Photography Workshop featuring Hasselblad H4D cameras and lenses. This is your opportunity to work with the GigaPan System, motorized and manual VR equipment, various stitching programs and Hasselbad’s Phocus software. Your instructors will be world-renowned panoramic photographers, Peter Lorber and Fred Yake along with post production specialist and photographer Courtenay Gilbert.

April 2-3 2011

Bob Maynard leads participants to shoot rock art, ruins and stunning rock formations. With favorable weather night light painting sessions will take place as well as sunset shots in Moab's surrounding parks. With enough interest get to shoot with Bob's Manfrotto pan head to capture panoramas.

May 2011 Moab XTERRA Triathlon - Registration is OPEN

Athletes are invited to register for the first annual Moab Triathlon.
Moab is enormously thrilled for it.
It is a USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned event.

The FULL triathlon looks like this:
1500M swim in Ken's Lake, a 40K Bike on the Steelbender trail, and a two-loop 10K run to Faux Falls finishing at the day use area of Ken's Lake.

For you road preferred bike athletes:
Start again with the 1500M swim in Ken's Lake, a 40K Bike on paved Spanish Valley Drive with an out-and-back to Pack Creek Ranch, then finish with the same two-loop 10K run to Faux Falls and day use area finish

Kids Triathlon (ages 7-10), oh this is GOOD:
Starts with a 25M swim, 1.5 mile bike, and a 1/2 mile run.
The older kids (ages 11-14)
Swim 200M, bike 6K, and finish with a 1 mile run.

Reconstruction to Begin on Mineral Bottom Road Switchbacks

On December 2, 2010 Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD) of the United States Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Federal Highway Administration issued a contract to KSUE Corporation of Moab, Utah, to commence immediate reconstruction of switchbacks on Mineral Bottom Road (Grand County Route 129). Construction is anticipated to commence December 13, 2010 and is expected to continue through spring of 2011. CFLHD will be administering the project, including contract management, throughout the duration of the construction process. During the construction process, access to the switchback and construction area will be restricted and no public admittance will be allowed.

In August of 2010, a storm destroyed the switchbacks, making the road impassable. Grand County partnered with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Moab Field Office to apply for funding through USDOT’s program of Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads.

Grand County wishes to express appreciation to countless stakeholders for the public support of this project. Specifically, staff from the BLM Moab Field Office took immediate and critical measures in obtaining emergency funding for reconstruction of the road. Additionally, efforts of staff from Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park, as well as support from Governor Herbert and Congressman Matheson, helped to secure emergency federal funds for the road’s reconstruction.
